Performance: In SEGA-legal eighth-mile competition, the Dixie Twister has run a best eighth-mile of 6.10 at 126.Įngine: S&G Machine in Bristol, Tennessee, originally built the Ford FE 427 high-riser, which was later modified by fellow SEGA racer Jimmy Huff. Interior: The bare-bones aluminum interior is all race car with a 10-point rollcage, stock dash, Chevy door panels, and Speedway bomber-style seats. With fiberglass front fenders, hood, trunk, and bumpers, the car was painted in a DuPont basecoat with custom lettering from Frank Fitzsimmons. The fastback conversion was done by Kelvin Cannon. Body/Paint: This 1962 Chevy II was updated to look like a 1965 model. Wheels & Tires: Classic Cragar Super Stock rims are used all the way around with Moroso 17050 Drag Special front tires Mickey Thompson 29.5x9x15 slicks are used on the rear. Suspension: The front suspension uses a 5-inch dropped front axle from a 1955 Chevy truck with three-way adjustable shocks from Competition Engineering while the rear coil spring suspension uses QA1 shocks. Rearend: Torque is sent to the ground through a 9-inch Strange centersection holding a 4.88 gear set with Strange axles. Transmission: Platt's Chevy II uses a Hightower four-speed transmission. Feeding alcohol to the engine is a Hilborn belt-driven pump. Induction: 1965 vintage 907-casting heads are used with a Hilborn 396-C-8M with a 3-inch bore. Inside the short-block is a GM crank, Eagle steel H-beam rods, and SRP 13.1 pistons. from Greenwood Auto Parts in Greenwood, South Carolina, built the Dixie Twister's engine with a 427 stock block bored 0.060 over.
